The BAN and the OTAKU: The reason why we don't get quality Anime in India

Everyone must be aware of the recent Ban in Doraemon Anime in Pakistan by PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf). Doraemon (often dubbed as Mickey Mouse of Japan by the western countries) is one of the most popular Anime franchises in japan spanning not only anime, manga and 30+ films but has managed to infuse itself as a part of the Japanese culture.
Censorship has deteriorated the content on animation channels
Now coming back to India a similar thing happened way back in 2008. "ShinChan" one of the most famous kids shows on TV back then got banned which led to ban of the channel Hungama TV itself.
Although everything came back after a month or so, but that was a turning point which changed the way all Animation channels are today in India.
Earlier the Age bar for these channels were mid to late teen levels (similar to shounen/shoujo in otaku culture). But due to this rise in censorship it was pulled down to pre-teen levels (Kodomo).
The channels started showing disclaimers like "if you have any problems with content you can report at xyz.." This kept the deterioration of quality content on these channels. Sooner Indian Cartoons emerged and started taking over the slots on Cartoon Network and Pogo and all quality cartoons and Anime keep getting canceled and discontinued.
So, the overall point is that these channels and the overall Indian Animation Industry is not like this because they were incapable of it. It's only because of the censorship and these strict decisions which destroyed and deteriorated them.
And as for people who were thinking "What about Animax?" Well ofcourse they are trying hard, but most shows are subbed which is great for Mainstream Otakus. But to inspire a younger audience and break the Ice and get a nation wide popularity.. language is an important barrier which needs to be broken first.
Am not a professional blogger neither a hobbist to write a detailed article like this so Apologies.. if you find any mistakes. ~Admin
